CAPCOM

In the early days of the US space program, a member of the ground-based Mission Control team which controlled communications with the astronaut’s capsule was known as a capsule communicator. This was shortened to CAPCOM. The name stuck even after NASA replaced capsules with the Shuttle.

VSSEC’s newsletter, CAPCOM, is issued quarterly in electronic form.  It announces upcoming events and programs, as well as promoting resources for teachers and opportunities for anyone interested in science and space. Please subscribe to the RSS feed or join us on Facebook or Twitter for instant updates.

From August 2010 to August 2012, CAPCOM was a compilation of news articles. For access to these stories, please search the VSSEC News Blog Archive.

For access to all other past issues of CAPCOM outside these dates, please search the CAPCOM Archive.

Prior to September 2012, CAPCOM was issued monthly.
