Program for the day

10:00 – 10:40

Humans in Space Presentation

Investigate the importance of using different species to study the effects of microgravity. Learn about homeostasis (the body’s response to an external change) and explore how studying homeostatic mechanisms help us understand how the human body responds to microgravity.

10:45 – 11:00

Morning tea

11:00 – 12:00

Human Physiology Lab Part A

Conduct your own Astronaut Fitness Assessment. Students measure their physical parameters, including height and weight, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, visual acuity and more.

12:00 – 12:30

Lunch

12:30 – 2:30

Human Physiology Lab Part B

Students conduct three detailed investigations:-

• Cardiovascular fitness using exercise bicycles

• Calculate metabolic rate by measuring expired gases

• Blood and urine analysis
