The NASA Academy is a an intensive resident summer program of higher learning for university undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing professional and leadership careers in space-related fields. Its main goal is to help guide future leaders by giving them a glimpse of how the whole system works.

These programs are normally only available to US students, but through the awarding of this prize an Australian student will spend ten week working directly with a principle investigator on a current NASA project in Research Center laboratories, attend lectures and workshops, and participate in visits to other NASA Centers, space-related laboratories and industries.
